Body
The body piece is generally where most of your stats come from, and Blue Mage gets a great selection of pieces. Gear for DEF if you’re tanking; most DEF-only gear is ommited here (standout tank pieces will still be mentioned.) High-quality gear is indicated with parentheses. “Rare” items are italicised. “Exclusive” items are bolded.
| Name | Level | DEF | Stats | Notes |
| Bronze Harness (+1) | 1 | 4 (5) | NA | If you have a generic All Jobs body, like RSE, that’s fine, too. Most gear 1-10 is arbitrary, anyways. |
| Leather Vest (+1) | 7 | 7 (8) | NA | No frills here, just a generic upgrade. You can try augmenting for something a little “flashier”. |
| Scale Mail (+1) | 10 | 11 (12) | NA | There is a chance you will end up tanking should you decide to party in Valkurm Dunes. The scale set has the best DEF available at this point. You could use the Legionnaire’s Harness instead for +5 Fire resistance at the expense of 1 DEF, but you should be able to Head Butt most Bomb Tosses anyways. |
| Lizard Jerkin (+1) | 17 | 15 (16) | NA | A large defensive upgrade from the scale mailset. |
| Baron’s Saio (HQ) | 20 | 15 | INT +1, MND +1 | An upgrade with actual stat bonuses, however, it is quite expensive and is really a luxury item. Use the Beetle Harness +1 for tanking. |
| Steam Scale Mail | 27 | 23 | Fire +3, Wind +3, Water +3 | The best defense available with some elemental resistances making it a fine choice, especially for tanking. Drops from the Geyser Lizard in Dangruf Wadi. |
| Mercenary Captain’s Doublet | 30 | 20 | DEX +1, AGI +1 | The best option until your RSE piece. |
| RSE Body | 33 | 18 | Varies by race | Custom Tunic, Custom Vest, Elder’s Surcoat, Magna Bodice, Magna Jerkin, Savage Separates, and Wonder Kaftan. All will provide you with a large HP or MP boost and some stat bonuses. Tarutaru and Galka may opt to skip even the Brigandine and stay with theirs. |
| Channeling Robe | 34 | 21 | MP +3, “Magic Burst Damage” +3% | When you hit level 40, you’ll want one of these to macro in during a magic burst after your skillchain. Good INT/MAB bodies will replace this later on. Drops from Hippomaritimus in Valkurm Dunes. |
| Brigandine (+1) | 45 | 32 | HP +10 (+15), (STR +1), DEX +2 (+3), VIT +2 (+3), (AGI +1, INT +1, MND +1, CHR +1) | This body is great defensively and is fairly inexpensive for the quality. The high-quality version is very expensive, however, and is generally not worth the pricetag unless you manage to sell it back when done with it. |
| Cerise Doublet | 50 | 28 | Atk. +3, Acc. +3 | The body obtained from the quest Brygid the Stylist Returns. You will need to obtain a Libra Subligar from a Fomor Bard in Phomiuna Aqueducts or Sacrarium for the quest. It’s not a commonplace piece by any means, but it’s worth getting either way for things capped at level 50. |
| Silken Coat (Magi Coat) |
53 | 33 (34) | HP +21 (+22), MP +21 (+22) | A skippable piece, it’s used only for the high HP and MP bonuses. Very replaceable by the Magus Jubbah. |
| Jaridah Peti (Akinji Peti) |
55 | 42 (43) | HP -25, Acc. +5 (+6), Atk. +5 (+6), RAcc. +5 (+6) | Similar to Scorpion Harness, it’s a much cheaper alternative for your TP build but not quite as viable. It lacks the +evasion and exchanges 5 Acc. for 5 Atk. and an HP penalty. |
| Scorpion Harness (+1) | 57 | 40 (41) | HP +15 (+20), Ice -20, Water +15 (+20), Dark +15 (+20), Acc. +10 (+12), Evasion +10 (+12) | The best TP piece available until endgame. If you’re still tanking, it’s a pretty good piece for that, too, with HP and evasion bonuses. It is expensive, and the HQ is even moreso. Use at least a Jaridah Peti if you cannot afford one. The price is, however, on a steady decline so it’s more affordable now than it was before. |
| Magus Jubbah (+1) | 58 (74) | 44 (45) | HP +12 (+17), MP +12 (+17), STR +3 (+5), DEX +3 (+5), Blue Magic Skill +15, (hHP +1, hMP +1) | The best piece (overall) in the game for casting blue magic. With STR and DEX bonuses, it’s also acceptable for weaponskills, though there is better at 75. If you do Limbus, it is worthwhile to upgrade this piece for an extra 2 STR and DEX. The HP/MP increase will also be useful for casting breaths. |
| Assault Jerkin | 67 | 42 | HP -1%, Acc. +3, Atk. +18 | A huge source of attack for your TP build, alongside a decent +3 Acc. Probably the only item you could really consider using over a Scorpion Harness. It drops from Ose in the Labyrinth of Onzozo. |
| Cobra Unit Harness | 68 | 42 | Acc. +11, “Store TP” +6, Enmity -8 | A masterful, easy-to-obtain TP piece until you get a Refresh body. Bought with 75k or 100k Allied Notes depending on your nation. Definitely replaces Scorpion Harness. |
| Errant Houppelande (Mahatma Houppelande) |
72 | 42 (43) | STR -7 (-8), DEX -7 (-8), VIT -7 (-8), AGI -7 (-8), INT +10 (+11), MND +10 (+11), CHR +10 (+11), Enmity -3 (-4), hMP +5 (+6) | Use it for a hMP healing set, or an Eyes On Me build for less resistant mobs. |
| Enkidu’s Harness | 72 | 50 | STR +5, AGI +5, Acc. +10, Atk. +10, Evasion +5, “Subtle Blow” +5 | Haubergeon for Blue Mage. If you want to take your Chain Affinity skillchains (or regular weaponskills) to the limit, use your weaponskill in this as it’s far superior to the Magus Jubbah when not dealing with the actual spells. It is also good for tanking, though Mirage Jubbah could serve better with the Refresh. |
| Crimson Scale Mail | 73 | 52 | HP +40, MP +40, INT +10, MND +10, Breath damage taken -10%, “Dragon Affinity” | Great healing body when you can combine it with a Magus Keffiyeh (+1) or Anwig Salade designed for healing. |
| Mirage Jubbah (+1) | 74 (75) | 45 (46) | MP +20, Acc. +10 (+12), Enmity -2 (-3), “Refresh” | The best for TP in most situations. The only reasonable alternative would be Morrigan’s Robe which has Attack and STR at the expense of some Accuracy. Truly the most worthwhile piece of the relic set. |
| Morrigan’s Robe | 75 | 38 | STR +8, INT +8, MND +8, Acc. +5, Atk. +5, MAB +5, “Refresh”, Set: “Enhances MAB” | Completed Salvage body piece for BLU. It’s a great WS piece and casting piece for almost any spell on less resistant mobs, but given the 12~15M pricetag, it is only for completionists. Magus Jubbah +1/Mirage Keffiyeh are easier to get and more practical in most scenarios. |
| Homam Corazza | 75 | 49 | HP +28, MP +28, Acc. +15, “Triple Attack” | Significant HP/MP, the largest accuracy boost available, and the addition of Triple Attack (~2.5% rate). It is a Limbus (Omega) drop, but its usefulness has declined with the introduction of Refresh bodies. |
| Mirke Wardecors | 75 | 42 | HP +10, MP +10, STR +5, DEX +5, AGI +5, (Acc. +10, “Fast Cast” +5) | Reward piece from the last fight in “A Crystalline Prophecy.” The augments chosen make this a piece specifically designed for casting Head Butt or Utsusemi, and assume you normally TP in something like Mirage Jubbah or Enkidu’s Harness. If you don’t have either of those, you could opt for Acc. +10 and Double Attack, etc. instead. If you’re into tanking, a combination of Enmity, Fast Cast, or Evasion would be your best bets. |

No mention of Vermy, or even Mirage Jubbah’s Refresh effect?
I suppose Vermy is worth a mention as an idle piece. See the Corazza comment about Jubbah’s Refresh, though.
Hm… perhaps, should you choose to expand the scope of the guide, it would make more sense mentioned in a section all about various builds most BLUs will be using. I guess it would be slightly out of place here.
I plan on getting to that eventually. Issue I’m having right now is a dead 360 and no PC access and work/school starting so I don’t have much time for playing or writing *sigh*
